i was working in my journal tonight and came across this entry - it's much of what's been on my mind lately so i'll share (with whoever actually reads this blog)... :)
entry from 12 march 2007: "there is a quaker philosophy of 'letting your life speak your truth' ~ they call it a leading~ and the real trick is learning to listen to that calling and to be able to hear it above all the chatter of life. i believe the creative process is much the same way...it's a practice of filtering - scaling down to that moment of pure truth - that spark of energy that is so pure, so subtle, so powerful and completely unique to that individual artist. but so often we are not still long enough to hear her. in school it was so simple to produce - perhaps that's because we were cultivating the artist, coming into our own, discovering and exploring our process and since then life and all her responsibilities set in and somewhere along the way that spark was shelved. oh, there have been moments when she's rattled the cage and got my attention but for too damn long i have been too busy to listen. and now as i venture on this creative journey once more, i am trying to do so in a courageous manner."
